What Is an ASE Certified Mechanic, and Why Does it Matter?
At Scholfield Honda, we have several ASE Certified Technicians on staff because we believe every automotive service or repair should be completed to the highest standards.
What Is an ASE Mechanic?
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting excellence in the car service and repair industry. Since 1972, the ASE has been testing and certifying automotive technicians. The ASE Certification is tangible evidence of a mechanic’s technical knowledge.
To become ASE Certified, technicians must pass a rigorous certification test. The test focuses on job-related skills, and only 2 out of 3 people who take the test pass it on their first attempt. After passing the exam, mechanics must prove they have either two years of on the job training, or one year of on the job training plus a two-year automotive repair degree.
Technicians must be retested every 5 years to remain certified and keep up with ever-changing automotive technology. Mechanics may also obtain ASE Master Certification by taking additional tests to show further knowledge of specific skills such as collision repair or engine machinist.
Why Does ASE Certification Matter to You?
When you see the blue and white ASE Certified logo, you can rest assured that your vehicle will be repaired or serviced by a knowledgeable, professional technician. ASE mechanics have proven themselves to meet the high standards of service and knowledge set by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
